The analogue scale is a sort of pain thermometer that measures the intensity of pain. The pain can be defined by a line drawn on the scale as in the example below.
- One end of the pain thermometer corresponds to no pain ('I feel no pain'). The closer the line is to this end, the less pain you are experiencing.
- The opposite end is the maximum pain imaginable. The closer the line is to this end, the more pain you are experiencing.
